HOUSTON (ICIS)--US styrene production and inventories in the third quarter were down slightly year on year, according to data released by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Wednesday.
Third-quarter styrene production was at 2.2bn lb, down by 4% from 2.3bn lb in the third-quarter of 2011.
Third-quarter 2012 production was also down by about 4% from 2.3bn lb in the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, third-quarter styrene inventories were at 521m lb, down by 14% from 607m lb in the third quarter of 2011.
Third-quarter styrene inventories were up by 12%, however, compared with the previous quarter.
Major US styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, Styrolution, LyondellBasell, Total and Westlake Chemical – all of which contributed production figures included in the AFPM survey.
