HOUSTON (ICIS)--US benzene production and inventories were down in the third quarter compared with the same time a year earlier, according to data released by the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Wednesday.
Third-quarter benzene production was at 409m gal, down by 4% from 425m gal the in the third quarter of 2011.
Despite the drop from a year earlier, 2012 third-quarter production was up by 7% from 383m gal the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, third-quarter stockpiles were at 79m gal, down by 22% from 101m gal in the third quarter of 2011.
Third-quarter inventories this year were also down by 4% from 82m gal the previous quarter.
Major US benzene producers include BP, Chevron Phillips Chemical, Flint Hills Resources, Total and LyondellBasell – all of which contributed production figures included in the AFPM survey.
