US October auto sales rise by 6.9% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US October sales of passenger cars and light trucks increased by 6.9% year on year, an industry publication said on Wednesday.

Autodata reported that sales of passenger cars and light trucks in October totalled 1.09m units, up from 1.02m sold in the same month a year ago.

Sales in the first 10 months of 2012 rose 13.8% year on year.

The US automobile industry comprises one of the major segments for chemicals such as acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), nylon 6,6, polycarbonate (PC) and several synthetic fibres and paints and coatings.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) estimates that each automobile contains an average of $3,297 (€2,539) worth of chemicals.
