Japan's ITOCHU energy & chemicals ops H1 profit falls 24%

TOKYO (ICIS)-- ITOCHU Corp’a energy and chemicals business had a 24% year-on-year decline in first-half net profit to yen (Y) 15bn ($187m) on lower dividends from its liquefied natural gas (LNG)-related investments, the Japanese trading firm said on Friday.
Total trading transactions for the segment in the six months to 30 September 2012, meanwhile, rose by 5.2% year on year to Y2,589bn, while operating profit increased by 14% to Y24.8bn, according to Itochu.

Itochu’s overall net profit for the first half of its fiscal year was down 11% year on year to Y142.2bn, while total trading transactions increased by 2.6% to Y6,116bn.

Its six-month operating profit declined by 19% to Y112.1bn, the company said.
