SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical has switched to producing more n-butanol (NBA) instead of 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) at its 250,000 tonne/year oxo-alcohols unit at Mizushima since end-October, a company source said on Friday.
“We have switched about 20% production of 2-EH to NBA because of lower margins in the 2-EH market,” the source said.
Mitsubishi Chemical is currently operating the oxo-alcohols unit at around 88-92% of capacity, the source said without providing the current breakdown of production for each chemical. The facility usually produces around 150,000 tonne/year of 2-EH and 100,000 tonne/year of NBA, the source said.
