SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Lee & Man Chemical plans to shut its 280,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda plant at Changshu in Jiangsu on 20 November for 10 days of maintenance, a company source said on Monday.

At the same time, its 160,000 metric tonne/year chloromethane plant will also be shut for maintenance, the source said.

A reduction in supply of liquid caustic soda and chloromethane as a result of the plants’ maintenance may lead to a rise in caustic soda prices. And as of 5 November, the prices of caustic soda in Jiangsu are at CNY800-830/tonne ($128-133/tonne), according to a local market player.

Lee & Man Chemical is a major chlor-alkali producer in Jiangsu province, east China.
