SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Jinan has delayed on-spec production of Group II base oils at its expanded plant at Jinan in Shandong province to late November from late October originally, a company source said on Tuesday.

The company suspended production at its plant in view of weak market demand and sufficient output from other subsidiary base oil plants in November, the source explained.

It has restarted the 150,000 tonne/year plant in early October after upgrading and expansion, the source said, adding that they are expecting for full operations in 2013. The plant will largely produce Group II N150 and N500 base oils.

However, the Chinese base oil market is currently in oversupply of Group II products, especially low-viscosity N150 grade, market sources said.
