Japan’s Nippon Shokubai H1 net profit falls 47%, sales down 8.9%

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s Nippon Shokubai reported on Tuesday a 47% year-on-year decrease in its six-month net profit to yen (Y) 6.57bn ($82m), with net sales falling 8.9%.

Net sales for the six months to 30 September 2012 stood at Y149.3bn, while operating profit was at Y9.85bn, down by 46% year on year, the producer said in a statement.

In the basic chemicals segment, net sales for the period decreased by 11% to Y63bn, while operating profit fell by 57% to Y3.84bn as prices of its products – acrylic acid and acrylic esters – declined, Nippon Shokubai said.
