SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Asahi Kasei Co plans to shut its 390,000 tonne/year No 3 styrene monomer (SM) unit in mid-September 2013 for maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The unit is located in Mizushima.

“The shutdown is expected to last for around one month,” the source added.

The company operates another 320,000 tonne/year No 2 unit at the same location, but the unit has not been scheduled for maintenance next year.

The next turnaround at the No 2 unit is planned for the second quarter of 2014, in tandem with a turnaround at the firm’s cracker.

The company’s 150,000 tonne/year No 1 unit was mothballed in 2007.
