MUMBAI (ICIS)--Indian petrochemical and refining major Reliance Industries (RIL) will enjoy a very strong cost-competitive position for the ethylene produced at its new refinery offgases-based cracker at Jamnagar, Gujarat, a senior company executive said on Thursday.
"The ethylene will not be as competitive as the Middle East or shale gas-based ethylene in the ?xml:namespace>
The cracker is expected to start production in 2015.
The cracker is part of a complex project that involves gasification of petcoke produced at Reliance's two existing refineries to syngas; processing of syngas to substitute natural gas (SNG); swapping the SNG with the ethane/ethylene contained in the refinery fuel gas (RFG); and using the ethane as the feed for the cracker.
The Indian Petrochem conference concludes on Friday.
