US ABS September exports fall by 17% year on year – ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) exports for September were down by 17% year on year, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Exports decreased to 6,361 tonnes from 7,673 tonnes in September 2011, the ITC said.

Year to date, exports of ABS have totalled 63,874 tonnes, a decrease of 3.7% from the same period in 2011.

Top destinations for US ABS exports in September were Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong.

Imports amounted to 11,255 tonnes, up by 24% in September year on year.

Taiwan, Mexico and Korea were the top three points of origin for ABS material shipped to the US in September.

For the year to date, 108,392 tonnes have been imported, an increase of 9.6%.

US producers of ABS include INEOS ABS, Network Polymers, SABIC Innovative Plastics and Styron.
