HOUSTON (ICIS)--US paraffin wax (p-wax) imports in September increased by 77% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
US p-wax imports rose to 21,590 tonnes in September from 12,218 tonnes in September 2011, according to the ITC.
Imports rose in September mainly because of increased product brought in from China and Japan.
September imports also increased from 13,778 tonnes imported in August.
China, at 10,333 tonnes, was the major source of US p-wax imports, followed by Japan at 4,903 tonnes, Canada at 2,196 tonnes and Greece at 1,558 tonnes.
Other sources included Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, India, Kuwait and the Netherlands.
The US exported 3,158 tonnes of p-wax in September, up from 2,148 tonnes in August.
Canada at 1,217 tonnes was the major destination for US p-wax, followed by India at 1,000 tonnes and Mexico at 683 tonnes.
Other destinations included Venezuela, China, Guatemala, Australia, Ecuador, Germany and Norway.
