HOUSTON (ICIS)--US sorbitol imports in September were down by 10% from the same month a year earlier, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
US sorbitol imports fell to 399 tonnes in September from 442 tonnes in September 2011, according to the ITC.
Imports fell in September mainly because of reduced imports from Indonesia.
September imports also decreased from 650 tonnes in August.
Indonesia, at 217 tonnes, was the major source of US sorbitol imports, followed by Germany at 145 tonnes, China at 31 tonnes and Brazil at 6 tonnes.
The US exported 3,570 tonnes of sorbitol in September, down from 4,455 tonnes in August, but up from 3,128 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
Major destinations for US sorbitol were Canada at 1,580 tonnes and Mexico at 1,184 tonnes.
Other destinations included Colombia, Australia, Indonesia, Venezuela, Argentina and United Arab Emirates.
