Europe chlorine output and caustic soda stocks fall in October

LONDON (ICIS)--Average European daily chlorine production in October fell by 6.7% from September, while stocks of co-product caustic soda fell by 12.9% in the same period, according to industry body Euro Chlor on Tuesday.

Average daily production of chlorine for the region comprising the 27-member EU, Norway and Switzerland stood at 24,899 tonnes in October, compared with 26,689 tonnes in September.

Caustic soda stocks decreased to 222,616 tonnes, compared with 255,458 tonnes in September.

Euro Chlor’s year-on-year figures showed that average daily chlorine production in October was 3.1% lower than the year before, while caustic soda stocks were down by 19,666 tonnes.

Chlorine capacity utilisation stood at 72.2% in October, down from 77.4% in September and 75.4% in October 2011.
