MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Mitsui Phenol Singapore, a unit of Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals, will increase its second-half November acetone ex-tank price by $50/tonne to $1,090/tonne ex-tank in Singapore, said a company source on Thursday.

The price increase is effective from 15 November. The company announces its acetone price twice monthly.

Its first-half November acetone ex-tank price was at $1,040/tonne ex-tank.

The gains in acetone prices in the key China market in the first half of November, together with firm upstream benzene and propylene costs, prompted Mitsui Phenol Singapore’s decision for the price increase, the source added.

Mitsui Phenol Singapore operates a phenol/acetone plant, which can produce 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 180,000 tonnes/year of acetone, at Jurong Island in Singapore.

The company also operates a 230,000 tonne/year bisphenol-A (BPA) plant at the same site.
