SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s SP Chemical plans to shut its 300,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda plant at Taixing in Jiangsu on 25 November for ten days of maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The 300,000 dmt/year unit is currently running at 80% of capacity as the company aims to lower chlorine production amid a bearish market, the source said.

Chlorine is a co-product of caustic soda production.

The turnaround is not expected to have a big impact on market prices of caustic soda as the loss of liquid caustic soda output will not be significant, according to an industry source.

SP Chemical has 750,000 dmt/year of caustic soda production capacity at the Taixing site.
