TOKYO (ICIS)--Toyo Engineering Korea (Toyo Korea) has been awarded a contract to construct an ethylene oxide (EO)/ethylene glycol (EG) plant in Ulsan, South Korea, by Korea Petrochemical Industry, its Japanese parent Toyo Engineering said in a statement on Friday.
The plant will produce 80,000 tonnes/year of EO, and 205,000 tonnes/year of EG, according to the company.
The mechanical completion of the plant is scheduled for the end of May 2014, Toyo said.
Toyo will provide engineering, procurement and construction management based on the basic design package of US company Scientific Design Inc, it said.
EO is used for the production of detergents, thickeners, solvents and plastics, while EG is used as automotive antifreeze and a precursor to polyester fibre and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), according to Toyo.
