MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Zhejiang Xinhua has started selling methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) from its new 10,000 tonne/year plant at Jiande city in Zhejiang province, sources close to the company said on Tuesday.
The company began commercial operations last week, after achieving on-spec MIBK output in late October, the sources said.
MIBK, which is derived from acetone, is largely used as a solvent for industrial paints and thinners, as well as in the production of rubber chemicals.
Zhejiang Xinhua is among the five MIBK producers in China. The other four MIBK producers in the country are Ningbo Zhenyang, Jilin Petrochemical, Zhenjiang LCY General Chemical and Taizhou Petrochemical.
