TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of cast polypropylene (PP) film rose by 8.6% to 13,608 tonnes in October from the previous month, official data from an industry association showed on Wednesday.
This is a 2% increase from the corresponding period last year, according to the Japan Polypropylene Film Industry Association.
The country’s domestic shipments of cast PP film increased by 8.5% month on month to 13,178 tonnes, and rose by 9.4% year on year, the data showed.
Among domestic shipments’ total, 10,746 tonnes of cast PP film was used for food packaging in October, a 10% increase from the same month in 2011, based on the data.
Meanwhile, the country’s production of oriented PP film decreased by 1.4% to 18,400 tonnes in October from September, and declined by 2.7% from the same time last year, according to the association.
Domestic shipments of oriented PP film increased by 10% month on month to 19,515 tonnes in October, and also rose by 10% year on year, the data showed.
Among domestic shipments’ total, 15,081 tonnes was used for food packaging, a 12% increase from October 2011, based on the statistics.
