HOUSTON (ICIS)--US methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) contracts prices increased by 3 cents/lb ($66/tonne, €52/tonne) for November on snug supply and feedstock pressure, market sources confirmed on Wednesday.
Because the increase was seen at the high end of the October range, the new MIBK contract price range is $1.13-1.23/lb, as assessed by ICIS.
However, one supplier was heard to have rescinded its proposed increase to one or more customers.
One supplier continued to limit production and sales, and sources said its MIBK price was an outlier that would effectively discourage purchases.
Widespread increase nominations for the month stemmed mainly from supply constraints. At least two producers have implemented sales controls that are likely to remain in effect through the end of the year.
US MIBK suppliers include Dow Chemical, Eastman, Celanese and Sasol.
