SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China's Chongqing Pengwei Petrochemical has delayed the restart of its 900,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Fuling because of squeezed margins and a lack of feedstock, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The Chinese producer has postponed its PTA plant’s restart date to early December from its original schedule in mid-November, the source added.

Chongqing Pengwei Petrochemical’s PTA plant was shut since July, but underwent maintenance on 14 October for 2.5 months.

The shutdown of its PTA plant has had a huge impact on the company's contractual supply.

The producer’s supply of PTA in China has decreased by around 200,000 tonnes since July, according to ICIS data.
