LONDON (ICIS)--German specialty chemicals group LANXESS has contracted Foster wheeler to build what is expected to be the world’s largest ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) synthetic rubber plant, the Swiss petrochemical engineering company said on Monday.
Foster Wheeler is to carry out the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) of the plant, which is to be constructed at the Changzhou Yangtze Riverside Industrial Park complex in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The company is also carrying out the front-end engineering design (FEED) process for the facility.
Announced in September, the €235m ($305m) plant has a predicted EPDM production capacity of 160,000 tonnes/year and is expected to start up in 2015, according to LANXESS. The plant represents company’s largest single investment in China.
EPDM is used in the automotive industry for door sealants or windscreen wipers. Foster Wheeler declined to disclose the value of the contract.
