HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in October totalled 4.454bn lb (2.02m tonnes), rising by 3% from 4.323bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Monday.
However, ethylene production in October by volume fell by 1.0% from 4.499bn lb in September, while falling by 4.2% from the previous month when output is measured on a daily rate, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.
The reduction from September stemmed from lower operating rates last month, as four crackers experienced downtime in October, the report said.
US crackers operated at 90.7% of capacity in October, down from 94.7% in September but up from 88.1% in October 2011, the report showed.
