SINGAPORE (ICIS)--The October production of synthetic soda ash in China rose by 5.1% month on month, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China.
2,059,000 tonnes of synthetic soda ash was produced in October, up from 1,959,000 tonnes in September, according to the data. Furthermore, the data indicated that a cumulative total of 20,041,000 tonnes of synthetic soda ash has been produced in China from January to October this year.
China exported a total of 151,447 tonnes of synthetic soda ash, including dense-grade and light-grade, in October, according to official data reported by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.
The October export tonnage showed a month-on-month increase of 0.26% from 151,050 tonnes in September and a year-on-year increase of 26.9% from 119,339 tonnes in October 2011, according to the data.
The top three importers of China-origin synthetic soda ash in October were Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, importing 30,200 tonnes, 19,100 tonnes and 16,800 tonnes, respectively, according to the statistics.
Soda ash is primarily used in glassmaking, manufacturing of other inorganic chemicals, detergents, flue gas desulphurisation, water treatment and in pulp and paper manufacturing.
