LONDON (ICIS)--German chemical distributor Helm has appointed industry veteran Michael Effing to advise on distributing China-based fibreglass company Jushi Group’s thermoplastic glass fibre products in Europe, the company said on Wednesday.
Helm, which distributes several of Jushi’s product lines in Europe, has been commissioned to introduce Jushi’s thermoplastics products in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Benelux region, a process that Effing is to advise on from 1 December.
Effing, who has held positions at DuPont, Berkshire Hathaway, Owens Cornings, Huntsman and DSM, has recently launched a new firm, Advanced Materials Advisory & Consultancy (AMAC).
Jushi’s decision to increase its presence in the European thermoplastic glass fibre products market is driven by the development of a new production plant in northern Egypt.
With a projected full capacity of 200,000 tonnes/year of glass fibre, with the first phase of the project expected to be producing 80,000 tonnes/year by 2013, material from the site is to be sold in Europe, the Middle East and India, according to Helm.
The facility is Jushi’s first investment outside of China.
“The main production focus of our new facility near Cairo will be on thermoplastics for applications in the automotive, electrical and electronic sector, and in the building and construction market segments,” said Jushi CEO Zhang Yuqiang.
“Direct contact in technical service and application development will also be organised for the European customers. We intend to offer our customers a new capacity in the proximity to the European market,” he added.
