SINGAPORE (ICIS)--PetroChina has delayed the restart schedule of its Group I base oils plant at Nanchong by a month to late December, citing continuous shortage of feedstock and weak downstream demand, a company source said.

The plant has a 40,000 tonne/year capacity and is located at Sichuan province.

PetroChina shut the plant on 5 November because of feedstock shortage as upstream units were undergoing maintenance.

The company has suspended base oils supply to the local market, the source said.

Industry sources, however, said that local lubricant producers in Sichuan have enough inventories for production.

Most base oils producers have lowered operating rates at their facilities towards December, with some even shutting production, they said.
