SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG Chemical plans to start trial runs at its expanded ethylene dichloride (EDC) and caustic soda facilities in Yeosu in December, with commercial production targeted to commence in January 2013, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

LG Chemical has expanded its EDC plant capacity to 575,000 tonnes/year from the initial capacity of 275,000 tonnes/year.

The capacity of its caustic soda unit was ramped up to 500,000 dry metric tonnes (dmt)/year from 230,000 dmt/year.

The company also operates polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) facilities in Yeosu, each with a 750,000 tonne/year capacity.
