US November auto sales rise by 15% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US November sales of passenger cars and light trucks increased by 15% year on year, an industry publication said on Monday.

Autodata reported that sales of passenger cars and light trucks in November totalled 1.14m units, up from 994,000 sold in the same month a year ago.

Sales in the first 11 months of 2012 rose by 14% year on year.

The US automobile industry comprises one of the major segments for chemicals such as acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), nylon 6,6, polycarbonate (PC) and several synthetic fibres and paints and coatings.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) estimates that each automobile contains an average of $3,297 (€2,539) worth of chemicals.
