MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russian potash producer Uralkali plans to operate at 50% of its regular capacity in December and the first quarter of 2013, a company spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

In January-March 2013 Uralkali is expected to produce 1.6m tonnes of potash, while the company's normal annual capacity amounts to 13m tonnes, according to the source.

Uralkali is to cut its potash production volumes against a backdrop of weak international demand, notably in China and India.

Uralkali is expected to have produced 9.3m tonnes of potash in 2012, down by 7% year-on-year, according to the company.
