HOUSTON (ICIS)--Shell reported the release of ethylene from a pipeline in Louisiana in a public filing available on Thursday.
The cause of the release was a gasket failure, according to the filing with the National Response Center (NRC).
The leak began late on Wednesday afternoon, the filing said, adding that the estimated duration was 45 minutes.
A Shell spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The company has two crackers in Louisiana with a combined 1.42m tonnes/year of ethylene capacity. For more on Shell’s plants, visit ICIS plants and projects
