Currently, extrusion medium impact ABS in bulk has a domestic price range of 129-152 cents/lb, as assessed by ICIS pricing.
The increase has an effective date of 4 January and is being sought to cover rising feedstock costs, the company source said.
Styron is the second ABS producer in the Americas to call for a proposed price increase.
INEOS ABS has proposed a price increase of 4 cents/lb to be effective from 1 January 2013.
That proposed increase is also to cover rising feedstock costs.
The other ABS producers in the Americas have not indicated they will seek a price increase. Those producers include Network Polymers, SABIC Innovative Plastics and Styrolution.
