HOUSTON (ICIS)--December polyvinyl chloride (PVC) prices in Brazil are flat for the third consecutive month, supported by steady activity in recent months, sources said on Thursday.

Domestic prices in Brazil are assessed at $1,600-1,790/tonne (€1,216-1,360/tonne) DEL (delivered) for pipe grade, on healthy demand which has met expectations in the latter part of 2012, after slow activity in the first half of the year, sources said.

Braskem's PVC plant in Camacari is producing PVC normally after a maintenance shutdown in late November to fix lingering technical problems that resulted from a power outage in late October.

Some consumers said resin availability had become very tight because of the Braskem plant shutdown, but a local source said supplies are expected to return to normal in January.

The cause of the outage was a fire at a substation transformer, which resulted in a controlled shutdown affecting several states in northeastern Brazil, according to government officials.

PVC producers in Brazil are Braskem and Solvay.
