SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Albemarle will invest $65m (€50m) over the next five years to expand its manufacturing operations in Orangeburg, South Carolina, the US producer said late on Thursday.

The expansion would involve the manufacture of a new line of sustainable fire safety solutions, it said in a statement.

Albemarle will add facilities to manufacture two new products in its fine chemistry services business, to produce GreenCrest – the company's latest addition to its portfolio of eco-friendly fire safety solutions in the polymer solutions business.

The company will also expand its organometallic production unit to support its growing polymer catalysts business, it said.

The project is still subject to final approval by the Orangeburg County Council.

The third and final reading related to the project is expected on 17 December, it said.
