SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaanxi Weihe Coal Chemical is running its 200,000 tonne/year methanol unit at Weinan in Shaanxi province at 48% capacity, after restarting it on the weekend of 8-9 December, a company source said on Monday.

The methanol unit was running at 70% capacity before it was shut on 30 November for maintenance work following technical issues, the source added.

The Chinese producer is operating a separate 400,000 tonne/year methanol plant at the same site at nearly full capacity, with a daily output of 1,000 tonnes, the source said.

The product is largely used to produce a daily average output of 300 tonnes of dimethyl ether (DME).
