SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaanxi Beiyuan Chemical Industry Group cut the operating rate of its 880,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit in Shaanxi province to 23% from 65% of capacity due to power equipment woes, a company source said on Tuesday.
"The company reduced the operating rate as a result of being subjected to power equipment failure on 8 December," the source said.
The company is dealing with the problem and is expected to solve the issue before mid-December, the source added.
The company's loss of caustic soda production in December as a result of lower operating rate could reach an estimated 5,000-6,000dmt (dry metric tonne), according to the source.
Shaanxi Beiyuan Chemical is the largest caustic soda producer in Shaanxi province.
