LONDON (ICIS)--BASF has opened a new production site for plastic additives in Bahrain, the German chemicals company said on Wednesday.

The site, which comes onstream this month, will specialise in plastic blends tailored to specific customer demands, and will be the largest facility of its kind in the world, the company said.

The facility will be focused on producing materials for the Middle Eastern polymer market, with a focus on several key customers in the Gulf cooperation Council (GCC) region, BASF added.

The company also has an existing manufacturing agreement with local company Astra Polymer in Saudi Arabia to produce tailored plastic additives, which it refers to as customer specific blends (CSB).
