HOUSTON (ICIS)--US paraffin wax (p-wax) imports in October decreased by 6% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

US p-wax imports fell to 16,246 tonnes in October from 17,306 tonnes in October 2011.

Imports fell in October mainly because of decreased product brought in from Japan and China.

October imports also increased from 21,590 tonnes imported in September.

China at 9,324 tonnes was the major source of US p-wax imports, followed by Canada at 2,370 tonnes, Taiwan at 1,532 tonnes and Japan at 581 tonnes.

Other sources included Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India, Kuwait and Germany.

The US exported 2,747 tonnes of p-wax in October, down from 3,158 tonnes in September.

Mexico at 1,267 tonnes was the major destination for US p-wax, followed by Canada at 1,114 tonnes and China at 110 tonnes.

Other destinations included Latvia, Germany, France, Ecuador, Brazil and the United Kingdom.
