HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for October were up by 17 % from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.
US EPS imports rose to 13,913 tonnes in October 2012 from 11,855 tonnes in 2011.
Canada, the Bahamas and Mexico were responsible for the most EPS brought into the US, together representing 77 % of imports.
Imports from Korea more than doubled, rising to 2,276 tonnes in October 2012 from 910 tonnes from the same month of 2011.
US EPS exports fell by 2.6% in October to 6,847 tonnes, down from 7,033 tonnes in 2011.
Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US EPS exports.
Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
