US October sorbitol imports up 82% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US sorbitol imports in October were up by 82% from the same month a year earlier, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

US sorbitol imports rose to 723 tonnes in September from 397 tonnes in September 2011.

Imports rose in October mainly because of increased imports from Indonesia.

October imports also increased from 399 tonnes in September.

Indonesia at 589 tonnes was the major source of US sorbitol imports, followed by Germany at 108 tonnes, India at 18 tonnes and France at 8 tonnes.

The US exported 3,674 tonnes of sorbitol in October, up from 3,570 tonnes in September and 3,480 tonnes in the same month of 2011.

Major destinations for US sorbitol were Canada at 1,618 tonnes and Mexico at 1,399 tonnes.

Other destinations included Australia, Argentina, India, Indonesia, Colombia, Venezuela, United Arab Emirates and China.
