HOUSTON (ICIS) --US maleic anhydride (MA) exports were 3,505 tonnes in October, down 28% from the same month one year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data made available on Wednesday.
Moreover, MA exports were down 35% from the 5,417 tonnes shipped in September, the ITC said.
Mexico was the top destination for US MA exports in October at 1,235 tonnes, slightly less than the 1,270 that country received the same month in 2011. Next was Canada at 1,045 tonnes, less than half of the 2,407 tonnes it received in October 2011.
The United Kingdom received 594 tonnes of US MA in October, an 83% increase from the 324 tonnes it received in the same month a year earlier. Columbia received 362 tonnes, a 74% rise over the 208 tonnes it received in October 2011.
During the first 10 months of 2012, US producers have shipped 47,812 tonnes of MA, a 15% drop from the 56,446 shipped during the same period of 2011.
Major US MA producers include Huntsman, LANXESS, Ashland and Flint Hills Resources.
