SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China's Jiangsu Sanfangxiang is scheduled to bring on stream a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip line with a total capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year in March or April 2013, a company source said on Friday.
The expansion will lift the company’s total capacity from the current 1.2 m tonnes/year to around 1.6 m tonnes/year, making it the largest PET producer in China.
Sanfangxiang has six 200,000 tonnes/year bottle chip lines in Jiangyin, Jiangsu province, and the new line will be added at the same site.
Other major PET producers in China include China Resources, incorporated in Hong Kong, and Far Eastern Industry Shanghai.
PET, which is derived from purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG), is used to manufacture mineral water and carbonated soft drinks bottles.
