HOUSTON (ICIS)--US chlor-alkali production in November rose by 3 percentage points to 83% of capacity from October, a trade group said on Monday.
US chlor-alkali production in November was 921,128 tons (835,647 tonnes) of chlorine and 968,233 tons of caustic soda, according to The Chlorine Institute.
November’s slight jump in the overall production rate is the first since July, when production was at 88%. That was followed by three months of declines. In October, production was hampered by outages and logistical problems brought on by Hurricane Sandy.
Market participants said production has been boosted by strengthening demand for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is used extensively in the homebuilding sector.
Major US chlor-alkali producers include Dow, Formosa Plastics USA, Georgia Gulf, Occidental Chemical (OxyChem), Shintech and Westlake.
