Japan's PS production increases 23% in November

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of polystyrene (PS) rose by 23% year on year to 53,694 tonnes in November, official data from the Japan Styrene Industry Association (JSIA) showed on Wednesday.

This reflects an increase in domestic demand, which stood at 54,415 tonnes, a 3% increase from the same period a year earlier, according to the data.

Export volumes rose by 27% to 1,603 tonnes from the previous year, the data showed.

In the domestic market, 8,003 tonnes of PS was used for electric and industrial applications, representing a 2% year-on-year decrease, while 25,915 tonnes of PS was shipped for packaging purposes, a 3% year-on-year increase, according to the data.

The country’s output of styrene monomer (SM) was down by 8% year on year to 222,575 tonnes in November, according to JSIA.
