HOUSTON (ICIS)--Verdezyne will supply its bio-based adipic acid (ADA) to Universal Fibers, the carpet maker said on Friday, after the two companies entered into an agreement.
Universal Fibers makes sustainable, solution-dyed carpet fibre and refreshfiber. Unviersal Fibers will use the bio-based ADA in its EarthSmart Technology.
Verdezyne is a privately-held industrial biotechnology company focused on producing renewable, bio-based chemicals.
It was awarded its patent for bio-based ADA production in August. The patent covers one of its proprietary processes for selectively converting non-petroleum oils into ADA.
The company designed its process specifically for the production of nylon 6,6.
