SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Qilu Plasticizers shut its 140,000 tonne/year 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) unit at Zibo in Shandong province down on 21 December because of a mechanical issue, a company source said on Monday.
The shutdown of the new 2-EH unit is expected to last one week, the source added.
Domestic prices of the product are likely to rise as a result of tightened supply of domestic 2-EH, which will increase market speculation, a market player said.
The spot prices of 2-EH in east China were at yuan (CNY) 11,900-11,950/tonne ($1,907-1,915/tonne) on 21 December, compared with 11,850-11,900/tonne ex-tank on 20 December, according to data from Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
