SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Weifang Daye Chemical on 24 December shut its 10,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) unit at Linqu in Shandong because of poor margins, a company source said on Thursday.

The company has yet to fix a restart date for the plant, according to the source.

Weifang Daye Chemical does not have sufficient stocks for commercial supply while the plant remains shut, the source added.

The company typically produces 40 tonnes/day of MTBE with purity at 97% and sulphur content at 300-400 parts per million (ppm).
