HOUSTON (ICIS)--The US January mixed xylene (MX) contract settled at $4.66/gal, up 36 cents/gal from the December contract, trade sources said on Monday.
The increase came alongside tight supply conditions in the aromatics markets for much of December and was also in line with higher prices in other aromatics such as benzene.
Current MX spot prices are at $4.72-4.75/gal FOB (free on board), a slightly tighter range compared with $4.65-4.75/gal FOB a month earlier.
Major xylene producers in the US include BP, Chevron Phillips Chemical, ExxonMobil, Flint Hills Resources and LyondellBasell.
