LONDON (ICIS)--Peter Blauwhoff has been appointed chairman of the executive board of Shell's German business unit, Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH, effective on 1 January, the international oil and chemicals major said on Tuesday.

He succeeds Peter Seifried, who is due to retire later this year.

Blauwhoff is already country chairman and president of Deutsche Shell Holding GmbH. He is also chairman of Germany’s refining industry trade association, MWV.

Shell has a refining capacity of 31m tonnes/year in Germany, making it that country's leading refiner, according to its website.

The company has refining sites near Cologne and Hamburg, and it holds stakes in refineries in Schwedt and Karlsruhe. Shell also supplies about 180 firms in Germany with petrochemical products.
