SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Shell has relaunched its technology centre at Houston in the US following works to modernise and expand the facility, the energy major said on Wednesday.
“As a result of the refurbishment, about 60% of the Houston technology center is new or renovated. The improvements result in a 30% reduction in CO2 [carbon dioxide] emissions and a significant reduction in chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from its operations,” Shell said in a statement.
The Shell Technology Center Houston is the largest of the firm’s three technology hubs, with the second one located in Bangalore, India, and the third in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
“Shell has spent over a billion dollars a year on researching and developing new technologies,” said Matthias Bichsel, director of projects and technology at Shell.
The technology centere in Houston houses more than 2,000 of Shell’s scientists and engineers.
Investment details for the upgrade of the facility were not disclosed.
