HOUSTON (ICIS)--ExxonMobil reported flaring from its Baytown cracker in Texas in a public filing on Wednesday, citing a gas-compressor trip.
The company reduced rates, restarted the compressor and stabilised the unit to minimise emissions, according to the filing with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
ExxonMobil has two crackers in Baytown with a combined 2.2m tonnes/year of ethylene capacity.
US ethylene spot prices rose sharply in the past two days, triggering speculation of a potential disruption in the industry.
Ethylene for January delivery traded at 63.750 cents/lb ($1,405/tonne, €1,068/tonne), rising from deals done at 59.500-59.875 cents/lb last week.
($1 = €0.76)
